George Sharpe
Investment Manager, Merrion Oil & Gas
Climate change is real, and we need to do something about it. However, the math to net zero should drive the path to net zero. It turns out that the green path forward to a majority wind, solar, and battery world does not add up. They require massive amounts of land, water, steel, concrete, glass, copper, and precious metals, with much of that impact having to be repeated every 20 years. It is just not a sustainable plan to provide energy to the planet for the life of man. The bottom line is that if we want affordable carbon free energy that we can rely on, nuclear and/or natural gas with carbon capture HAVE to be a major part of the energy mix. This short video shows the math proving the point.
George is a native of Farmington, New Mexico. George has a Masters in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and has over 40 years in the industry. He worked 8 years with Chevron, primarily as a reservoir engineer, before joining Merrion Oil & Gas in 1990. An expert in reserve analysis and economic valuations, he has been the Investment Manager for the company since 1993 and is tasked with vetting all investment opportunities. George served two terms on the Farmington School Board and two terms on the Farmington City Council, and is active in various education initiatives in the community. George is an advocate for the oil and gas industry and has written countless op-eds and created several YouTube educational videos on various energy topics, both of which he spams out ad-nauseum.
